Chandigarh: One may think, what Spongebob Square Pants, a cartoon character from American animated series has to do with the fake news? He is helping Punjab police fighting fake news menace.
Amid the massive operation to nab Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal since last week, one of the biggest challenges for the police was to stop rumor-mongering, fake news and hate speech in the social media sphere. This was one of the reasons, in order to maintain public order certain districts of the state of Punjab were without mobile internet services for 72 hours.
Today, official twitter handle has a meme with the message ”The right way to deal with FAKE NEWS” showing Spongebob burning a piece of paper containing Fake News. The tweet along with the meme says: “Just gotta stand there & watch it burn. The best way to deal with Fake News!”
The creative messaging is part of Punjab Police’s campaign “FakeDiKhairNahin”
