New Delhi: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, reviewed the worsening flood situation in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, including Dibrugarh City, on Sunday.

Sonowal, who is also the MP of Dibrugarh, was briefed on the government’s efforts to minimize the impact of the floods on residents’ lives. With torrential rain continuing to wreak havoc, he directed officials to take immediate action and implement emergency measures to mitigate damage.

Sonowal noted the severity of the flood within Dibrugarh City as the Brahmaputra River’s water level crossed the danger mark early this morning, causing widespread flooding in many areas. He emphasized the need for the administration to stay vigilant and proactive, especially with further rain forecasted for the region.

To ensure a coordinated response, Sonowal spoke with Sanjay Kishan, Minister of Tea Tribes Welfare and Labour Welfare, and MLA of Tinsukia LAC, and Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and Guardian Minister of Tinsukia & Dibrugarh districts. The Guardian Minister is expected to visit the affected areas tomorrow to assess the situation and review relief efforts.

After the meeting, Sonowal expressed his concern over the grim flood situation in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency. He emphasized the urgency of implementing emergency measures and providing relief to those affected. “The severe flooding in Dibrugarh City is deeply concerning. Today, we had an urgent discussion with officials regarding the steps taken to mitigate the impact. While the administration is working on emergency measures, I have directed officials to ensure timely support and relief for those affected,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal also discussed the situation with Dibrugarh MLA Prashanta Phukan and top officials of the Dibrugarh Municipality Corporation (DMC), including Mayor Saikat Patra, Deputy Mayor Ujjwal Phukan, Ward Commissioners, and other senior officials.

Chief Secretary of Assam, Ravi Kota, and District Commissioner, Bikram Kairi, were also present during the meeting as the Union Minister directed all officials to take immediate measures and offer relief to the victims.
