Septuagenarian of Tripura rapes minor girl, arrested

Five days after the incident, the family filed a complaint with the police and the accused was arrested.

Agartala: A special court of South Tripura on Thursday convicted a septuagenarian on the charge of raping a minor girl in September last year and awarded him rigorous imprisonment for 20 years.


In the trial, the accused Anil Das (70) admitted the crime after police found him guilty during the investigation and accordingly, the court awarded him punishment.


Taking advantage of her parents’ absence, the convict raped the minor in the Neeharnagar area in South Tripura, under the police station of P R Bari.
After she was allured to a nearby rubber estate, she was raped. Later, the 10-yrs old victim informed the incident to her parents.


Five days after the incident, the family filed a complaint with the police and the accused was arrested.


He faced custodial trial and police submitted the Chargesheet under POCSO Act.


The Court also slapped a cash penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict in default of which two months additional imprisonment had to be served.
