Agartala: Protesting the attack on its President and Revenue Minister N C Debbarma and party MLA Dhirendra Debbarma in separate incidents in the last two days, ruling BJP’s partner in the government IPFT called a 24-hrs general strike in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) area tomorrow, IPFT General Secretary and Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kr Jamatia alleged after winning ADC election last month by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman’s party TIPRA Motha, attacks on IPFT have been going on.

A few hundreds of BJP and IPFT local leaders were attacked and more than a thousand houses were set ablaze after the declaration of the election result and still, the atrocities are continuing, he stated.

However, opposing the statement of N C Debbarma on the deteriorating law and order situation, Jamatia said, “The party doesn’t endorse the statement that there is no rule of law exists in Tripura but we feel, police should take firm action against the criminals.

To press for the demand IPFT called the strike tomorrow.”

Soon after the attack N C Debbarma had told media, “There is no rule of law in Tripura now. In 85 years of my life, I had never come across such a situation where police became helpless before the political crowd. Raising a voice against anybody or criticising any minister is a democratic right of the citizens but it should not be violent and abusive. I am really upset to face the situation.”

The minister said, “This cannot continue in a democratic set-up. This is clear hooliganism, the law and order situation has stooped to a new low in the state. Not as a minister, as a responsible citizen of the state, I am urging the home department of the state to take stern actions and restore normalcy in the system. It’s a clear reflection of anarchy in the governance.”

Police arrested the main accused of attacking MLA Dhirendra Debbarma yesterday at Mandai Swarna Kumar Tripura was arrested but nobody is arrested so far in connection with the attack on N C Debbarma. However, TIPRA Motha Chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has taken responsibility for both the incidents and apologised to IPFT leaders and opposed the strike in pandemic situations.

“We shall not tolerate any violence and whoever found involved in the attacks would be expelled from the party and I shall ensure that the accused persons have to be booked under law. Earlier, I (Pradyot) was attacked in the education minister’s constituency, former CM Manik Sarkar was attacked in Santirbazar, CPM leader Jitendra Choudhury was attacked and Congress Chief Pijush Kanti Biswas was attacked but the ruling party didn’t even condemn those and none of the accused is arrested,” Pradyot stated.

“There will be zero tolerance to goondas! Have suspended the main culprit Swarna Tripura from the party membership and also handed him over to the police! He had joined TIPRA Motha just three weeks before elections from IPFT. I want to make an example by ensuring these activities will not be tolerated,” he wrote on Twitter.
