Itanagar: Paying a visit to Parshuram Kund on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sakranti, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein informed that a new DPR (detailed project report) of Rs 150 crore has been submitted to the central government for further development of the pilgrimage site, official sources said on Sunday.
Attending the ongoing Parshuram Kund festival, Mein also informed that construction of the 51-ft statue of Sage Parshuram will begin soon at the pilgrimage site, the foundation stone for which was laid by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in May last.
The Deputy Chief Minister performed rituals and prayed for the well-being and prosperity of the people of the state. He also interacted with the locals and visitors and urged them to take advantage of the development initiatives and programmes being undertaken by the government.
Presently, the Hindu pilgrimage centre under Wakro circle in Lohit district is being developed with an investment of over Rs 37 crore sanctioned under the PRASAD scheme of the Ministry of Tourism. The project will provide improved facilities for pilgrims, including a light and sound show, a meditation centre, a cafeteria, and an interpretation centre. Once complete, the project will be a boost to religious tourism in the region and is expected to create employment opportunities for the local population.
Mein lauded the district administration for their efforts in making the event a grand success and encouraged the people of the district to take part in the festivities and promote the culture and traditions of the region. He further said that the festival would promote religious harmony and brotherhood among all the communities.
During the visit, the Dy Chief Minister was accompanied by MLAs Chau Zingnu Namchoom and Jummum Ete Deori, and ZPCs, among others. Rajasthan’s Udaipur MLA D N Joshi and convener of Vipra Foundation Sushil Ojha were among the notable visitors present on the occasion, sources added.Â
