Imphal: Repolling in 11 polling stations of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency was conducted peacefully on Monday, recording a voter turnout of 81.6 per cent as of 5 pm.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced repolling in these polling stations given incidents of firing, intimidation, destruction of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and allegations of booth capturing by unidentified armed miscreants during the first phase of polling on April 19.
In the incident, one person was reported to be injured after the firing, and clashes were reported at a polling booth in Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai of Imphal, Manipur, during voting.
The Polling Station that will undergo repolling are: 3-Khurai, 3/11- Sajeb (A), Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School; 3-Khurai, 3/21-Khurai Thongam Leikai, S. Ibobi Primary School (East Wing), Khurai Thongam Leika; 4-Kshetrigao 4/43-Bamon Kampu (North-A), Bamon Kampu Upper Primary School; 4-Khetrigao, 4/44-Bamon Kampu (North-B), Pioneer Academy; 4-Khetrigao, 4/45-Bamon Kampu (South West), Irilbung High School (North Wing); 4-Khetrigao, 4/46-Bamon Kampu (South East) Irilbung High School (South Wing); 5-Thongju, 5/31-Khongman Zone-V(A) National Children’s School; 10-Uripok, 10/1-Iroishemba Iroisemba Upper Primary School (Eastern Wing); 10-Uripok, 10/6-Iroishemba Mamang Leikai, Iroisemba Upper Primary School (Western Wing); 10-Uripok, 10/7-Iroishemba Mayai Leikai, Iroisemba Upper Primary School (Middle Wing) and 18-Konthoujam 18/22-Khaidem Makha Khaidem Primary School (Southern Wing).
The commission allowed the voting till 5 pm which started at 7 am amidst deployment of huge security personnel.
The opposition Congress had demanded repolling in 47 polling stations, claiming that huge polling booths were captured.
Manipur Congress President K Meghachandra Singh said the party has complained to the Chief Electoral Officer demanding repoll in 36 polling stations in the Inner Manipur constituency and 11 in the Outer Manipur constituency.
Around 72.17 per cent of the 15.44 lakh voters exercised their franchise in Manipur’s two Lok Sabha seats (one partially) on Friday.
