Punjab Police beat Army XI to enter semi-final

In Pool C Border Security Force starred in a very fast note. In the very first minute, their Sanjeev Kumar scored a field goal (1-0). After that Indian Air Force controlled the game. In the 21st minute of play Air Force’s Cariappa MB equalized (1-1).

Jalandhar: Punjab Police, Jalandhar entered the semi-finals of the 36th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament by beating Army XI by 1-0, they logged six points from two outings.

In another match, Indian Air Force Delhi registered their first victory by beating Border Security Force Jalandhar by 4-1 to earn three points in the league stage.

In the 22nd minute, Air Force’s Manip Kerketta put them ahead by 2-1. In the third quarter of the game, Indian Air Force’s Sukhdev Singh netted the ball from the right flank (3-1).

At the last minute Air force’s Cariappa MB completed the score sheet (4-1). With this win, the Air force bagged three points in the league stage as they lost their first match to Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi. BSF have to play their last league match on 29th October against Punjab & Sind bank Delhi.

The second match in Pool B between Punjab Police and Army XI played on a very fast note. The first quarter was goalless. In the second quarter’s 19th minute Punjab Police took the lead with the field goal scored by Raman from the Right flank (1-0).

Army Men wasted two golden chances to equalize. At halftime, Punjab Police were leading by 1-0. After the lemon break, the Army team mounted pressure and earned five penalty corners but they were not able to equalize. With this win, Punjab Police topped Pool B and secured a berth in the semis. Earlier Punjab Police beat Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala in their first league match.
