Poll preparedness in Thoubal district gains momentum

Thoubal: Despite calls from various civil society organisations either to delay or put on hold the forthcoming Lok Sabha election due to the current unrest in Manipur, DEO/DC, Thoubal District, A.Subhash Singh, IAS, Tuesday chaired a meeting with the head of offices and District Level Officers’ about the ensuing General Election, slated to be held in the middle of April and May.

A. Subhash Singh said the district will go on poll for both the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat and the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Seat. 

He instructed all the heads of department to cooperate in manpower management during the electoral process as government employees play a crucial role in the free, fair and transparent conduct of elections.

The deputy commissioner instructed departments concerned to submit a list of ongoing projects and schemes. He said only ongoing works or projects will be allowed to be carried out when the poll code comes into effect. The implementation of the model code of conduct comes into effect soon after the announcement of the Lok Sabha polls. Steps have been taken for the strict enforcement of the model code of conduct which will come into effect after the announcement of the poll dates by the ECI, he added.

A. Subhash Singh also took stock of facilities provided by departments in the relief camps of IDPs. He expressed satisfaction that medical teams are routinely visiting the relief camps and are promptly providing medical assistance when required.

He also instructed the Municipality team to continue with their solid waste management efforts at the relief camps.

The Deputy Commissioner further stated that the district administration has facilitated more than 200 dozen exercise books/notebooks for government school students residing at the camps. He also expressed happiness that the maximum number of students have enrolled in government schools and that there have been negative dropouts so far. 

The meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner was attended by all Officers’ of District Administration, District Level Officers and Heads of Offices.
