New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech during the 75th Independence Day celebration on Sunday lasted 88 minutes, making it his third-longest I-Day speech yet.
The Prime Minister started his speech around 0735 hrs after unfurling the national flag on the Red Fort.
Last year, PM Modi’s I-Day address from the ramparts went on for 90 minutes.
The Prime Minister had delivered his longest speech in 2016, which clocked 94 minutes, while in 2017, he made his shortest speech when he spoke for just 56 minutes. He spoke for over 65 minutes in 2014 and 88 minutes in 2015.
Modi’s predecessor Manmohan Singh, who delivered 10 speeches over his long tenure, stuck to the 50-minute mark in his Independence Day speeches.
While he delivered speeches that lasted 50 minutes only on two occasions – 2005 and 2006, during the remaining eight years, his speech ranged from 32 to 45 minutes.
