Kolhapur (Maharashtra): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Sindhudurg on Monday evening to participate in the Navy Day programme.
Earlier in a post on ‘X’, he said ‘On Navy Day, best wishes to all the personnel of the Indian Navy. Their commitment to safeguarding our seas is a testament to their unwavering dedication to duty and love for our nation. In every circumstance, their spirit and resolve remain unshakable. We are forever grateful for their service and sacrifices.
I look forward to joining the Navy Day programme at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra later today. This place has a close association with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose efforts to build a strong navy are well known.’
Mr Modi, will unveil the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district.
He will also witness the ‘Operational Demonstrations’ by the Indian Navy’s ships, submarines, aircraft and special forces from Tarkarli Beach in Sindhudurg district.
Navy day is celebrated on December 4 every year. ‘Navy Day 2023’ celebrations at Sindhudurg would pay homage to the rich maritime heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who had constructed several coastal and sea forts, including the Sindhudurg Fort.
The legendary Maratha Empire founder’s seal inspired the new Naval Ensign that was adopted last year when the Prime Minister commissioned the first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant.
This is the first time that the Indian Navy is organising such a mega event at a place which is not a Naval station.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Narayan Rane, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister’s Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar and others will attend the programme.
