Churachandpur: The awareness campaign on Covid-19 vaccination launched by the Pherzawl district administration from July 6 concluded Thursday.
The team was led by Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching and joined by Lunzamung, Addl. SP and Dr. Phirthanglien Buhril, CMO braved the rain and thunderstorms in the hills to reach out to the far-flung villages.
“Vaccine hesitancy/reluctance in the areas is rooted fundamentally to religious belief and fear. The perception of the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccines has also been exaggerated among the innocent villagers,” Mannuamching, the Deputy Commissioner said. Against the odds, vaccination was being carried out in different villages of the district, she added.
The team had a tough time busting and dispelling the myths and misinformation around vaccines circulating in social media, traditional and religion believes which had a significant impact on the vaccination drive. They also met “vaccine denialists” in the area to educate them on the importance of the vaccination drive against COVID-19. The medical team educated the masses of Tinsong, Pherzawl, Sikpuikon, Lungthulen, Parbung, Taithu and Damdiei villages on the benefits and probable side effects of the vaccine. “The team addressed and dispelled hesitancy of the villagers and gain trust for vaccination” Dr. Buhril stated.
The District Administration also planted trees as part of the Van Mahotsava, the annual tree planting festival in India.
