One killed as vehicle carrying polling personnel crashes in Nagaland

Kohima: One person was killed and twelve others injured when a vehicle carrying election duty personnel met with an accident in Wokha district of Nagaland on Sunday, sources said.

Official sources, quoting the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan, said that one vehicle carrying polling personnel, bearing an Assam registration number, met with an accident while on its way to Sungro for election duty.

The vehicle was assigned for Sungro Sector Polling Station number 4 of Sanis Assembly Constituency under Wokha district. I

It met with an accident near Thillong Bridge over Doyang River, where one person was killed and 12 others sustained injuries.

The apparent cause of the accident seems to be mechanical failure.

Sources said all the 12 injured persons have been transported to the District Hospital in Wokha town. 

A new team of polling personnel along with polling materials and machinery from the reserve polling personnel have been dispatched from the Wokha headquarters. If required, EVM machines will be replaced from the reserve, sources added.
