One arrested for killing farmer in Meghalaya

The district police chief of East Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtnger said that a group of gunmen had reportedly opened indiscriminate fire at farmers, killing one and injuring four others.

Shillong: One person was arrested for allegedly gunning down a farmer and injuring four others at Kenbah Malai village under Mawsynram Community and Rural Development in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills on Wednesday, police said on Friday.

The district police chief of East Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtnger said that a group of gunmen had reportedly opened indiscriminate fire at farmers, killing one and injuring four others.

He said the preliminary investigation indicates that the incident happened over a “land dispute” and added the investigation into the incident is underway. The victim was identified as Shalansing Mawkhaid (32) from Kenbah Malai village.
