Imphal: Veteran Congress leader Okram Ibobi criticized the current Manipur administration and Chief Minister accusing them of shirking responsibility and blaming Congress for current issues.
Ibobi highlighted, during a press briefing on Tuesday, the Congress party’s historical role in developing infrastructure and maintaining security in Manipur. He firmly rejected allegations that the Congress would support a separate administration, stressing the party’s commitment to the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Ibobi drew historical parallels, mentioning efforts by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi to maintain peace and integrity in the region, particularly regarding the Mizo National Front and the Greater Mizoram issue. He underscored that the Congress would not take any actions detrimental to Manipur’s unity.
He also criticized the current administration for security lapses, particularly referencing recent ambushes on the Imphal to Jiribam road and the failure to gather prior intelligence, leading to security failures in Jiribam and Moreh.
These comments come amidst heightened political tensions in Manipur following violence in the Jiribam district where several Meitei villages were destroyed.
