Bhubaneswar: Odisha government is destroying the heritage and culture of old Bhubaneswar in the name of beautification, state BJP President Samir Mohanty said here on Tuesday.
Flagging off a padayatra organised by the district BJP, Mohanty said instead of destroying the culture and heritage, the government should initiate steps to conserve and protect the heritage.
Mohanty said Bhubaneswar is a temple city famous for Lord Lingaraj, its stream and the ponds around it.
He said it is the duty of all of us to protect and conserve the heritage but the state government is destroying the heritage in the name of beautification.
Mohanty said earlier that people were using the water of the Kedar Gouri temple pond as medicinal water but now people fear to take bath in it.
BJP Bhubaneswar Organisation district President Babu Singh said Temples around the Lingaraj temple are centuries old but no step is being taken to protect and conserve these temples, he said.
He said in the name of beautification, the government is only making the outside contractors richer. The BJP will continue its agitation against it, Babu Singh said.
