Noney: Joining the statewide observance, the Noney District Administration marked the 133rd Patriots’ Day on Tuesday at the DC’s Office Complex in Longmai, Noney.

The event was held in remembrance of Yubraj Bir Tikendrajit Singh and Thangal General, honouring their bravery, sacrifice, and deep love for their motherland. Their patriotism continues to be celebrated today.

Patriots’ Day is observed annually on August 13th in Manipur, paying tribute to the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891. This conflict, a brief yet significant armed struggle, took place between the British Colonial Forces and the defiant royal princes of the Manipur Kingdom. On this day, Yubraj Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were executed at Pheidabung, now known as Bir Tikendrajit Park in Imphal, for their resistance against the British Empire.

During the ceremony, DC Noney Sharath Chandra Arroju IAS, along with SP Namsadai Peter, led the floral tributes to the portraits of Yubraj Bir Tikendrajit Singh and Thangal General, honoring their courage and sacrifices during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.

The event saw participation from ADC Stiff Khapudang, SDCs, DLOs, students, and locals, with nearly 350 people attending the function.

In addition, a full dress rehearsal for the upcoming 78th Independence Day Celebration was also conducted at the DC’s Office Complex.
