Imphal: Education Minister S Rajen Singh has said that there is no room for service extension of employees in the education department. Minister was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a 2-day state level workshop on “Assessment and Accreditation of Colleges held at DM College of Teacher Education, Imphal, Wednesday.
He said that the extension of service for the government employees has discouraged junior employees of the department. Many eligible Govt. employees who can be promoted to a superior post are simply suppressed by such a system of service extension. The system is in practice in many government departments in the state which should not be encouraged, the minister added.
Minister Rajen said that state colleges are still not excelling in NAAC scoring. He maintained that there sensitisation and awareness programmes conducted in colleges (government and aided) regarding NAAC score. This campaign will go on, the minister informed.
He said that NEP, 2020 has brought a new dimension to the education sector in the country. The state has also constituted a state-level task force and sub-task force headed by responsible officers of the education department for the successful implementation of NEP.
Minister Rajen also advised college authorities to keep college campuses neat and clean. Teaching and non-teaching staff should be punctual and work with sincerity. He also opined that there is a need for working together and understanding. The government is committed to addressing the grievances of the employees of the education department, he added.
