Patna: In a brutal incident of post-poll violence, a newly elected Mukhiya Neeraj Kumar was shot dead today by unidentified criminals.
Police said here that Kumar who was elected for the second term of Mukhiya from Rampur Panchayat in Phulwarisharif of Patna district was fired upon from close range near his house.
He succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to a local hospital, police added.
Criminals opened fire in the air to terrorise locals while escaping from the spot, police said, adding that a team of senior police officials including constables reached on the spot soon after receipt of the incident.
Raids were being carried out to nab the criminals involved in the incident, police further added. Prima facie, it appeared to be a case of post-election violence, police informed.
