Newborn dies due to false COVID report, people ransack PHC in Tripura

Ambassa (Tripura): In an unwanted happening, a two days old baby died allegedly from not being treated by the doctor on the ground of COVID positive report which proved to be false in the District COVID Care Center (DCHC) after which enraged local people ransacked the PHC and thrashed that doctor in Dhalai district here this evening.
This noon, Dr Justin Debbarma referred the two days old baby of local Dimple Debbarma to the District COVID Care Centre as the baby was tested COVID positive in the PHC.
And the parents of the baby Biswakumar Debbarma and Dimple Debbarma from the Nakful area in the bordering subdivision along with their relatives alleged that the baby was suffering from some complications since birth. But the doctor Justin Debbarma not attended to the baby as it was tested positive. And in a critical condition, the baby was referred to DCHC this noon.
On the way, the baby succumbed to her complications. However, as per the protocol the DCHC authority tested the corpse and found it negative. This infuriated the parents and relatives as the message reached their native village.
Hundreds of local villagers reached the PHC and thrashed the doctor Justin Debbarma for his negligence and the untimely death of the baby. He somehow managed to escape from the PHC.
The enraged people ransacked the PHC, destructed the furniture. In the meanwhile, the Additional Superintendent of Police(SP), Sub Divisional Police Officer(SDPO) of Kamalpur, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Cheif Medical Officer (CMO), Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) reached the spot with a huge contingent of police. However, tension gripped the area till now.
