Wellington: New Zealand on Thursday temporarily imposed a travel ban for all travellers from India, including its own citizens, following the surge in COVID-19 cases.

The temporary suspension will start from April 11 and will remain in place until April 28, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Health teams would use the time until April 28 to try and plan safer ways to accept travellers from India, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said.

While arrivals from India had triggered the risk assessment, the Government would be looking at risks posed by other Covid hotspot countries, she added.
