National Science Day observed in Aizawl

Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted the importance of scientific awareness and research in science and technology. He emphasized the need to concentrate on science in laboratories especially in academic institutes.

Aizawl: National Science Day was observed in Aizawl Monday at Synod Conference Centre. Home Minister Lalchamliana attended the occasion as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted the importance of scientific awareness and research in science and technology. He emphasized the need to concentrate on science in laboratories especially in academic institutes. He congratulated all the winners of State Level Science Quiz Award, 2021 which was organized by the Directorate of Science & Technology. He appealed to all the students of Mizoram to strive hard in the area of science and technology and inculcate scientific temper amongst them. 

H Lalsawmliana, Chief Scientific Officer & Member Secretary, MISTIC chaired the occasion. Samuel Lalmalsawma, Senior Scientific Officer and P C Lalngilneia presented papers based on this year’s National Science Day theme and CV Raman’s work respectively.

The theme of National Science Day for this year is ‘Future of Science and Technology and Innovation (STI): Impact on Education Skills and Work’. This year’s theme tries to enhance the appreciation of the impact of science and technology on education and skill.

India observed the first National Science Day on February 28, 1987, after the government accepted a proposal by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication to mark the day. The day also celebrates renowned Indian scientist CV Raman who invented the ‘Raman Effect’ in 1928 and won a Nobel Prize in Physics two years later.
