Puri: A massive beach cleaning drive was organised at Chandrabhaga beach near Konark and at Puri on Wednesday on World Tourism Day.
NALCO CMD Sridhar Patra, who organised the beach cleaning drive, said it is important to keep the beaches clean which will attract more tourists. The cleaning of beaches should be taken up at regular intervals, he added.
On the world tourism day,the tourists and visitors at Puri railway station and at heritage village Raghurajpur were accorded rousing welcome. They were presented with flower garlands and sandalwood tilak by the volunteers and staff of Tourism department
This apart, sand artist Manas Sahu had created a spectacular sand art on the beach with a message for upkeep of the beaches.
A meeting was held at Puri culture office hall where students of various schools and colleges who excelled in tourism related competitions held earlier were presented with prizes by the organisers.
District collector Samarth Verma said Puri administration has taken a number of steps to provide more facilities for the comfort of the visitors.
The participation of local residents, students and all stakeholders connected with the hospitality industry to keep the city clean will definitely attract more visitors, he added.
