Nagaland PYO bans hunting of wildlife

Kohima: The Phesama Youth Organization (PYO) under the Kohima district of Nagaland has banned hunting of wildlife and promoted eco-tourism.

PYO announced that in accordance with the direction of the Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) to ban hunting wildlife and to promote eco-tourism, it stood in affirmation and endorsed the decision of the SAYO and declared that any groups or individuals violating the rules in the village will be fined Rs 30,000.

The PYO also informed the general public that collection of firewood and vegetation, dumping of loose soil, dumping of garbage, hospital waste into the rivers or streams under the jurisdiction of Phesama village is totally prohibited.

It also declared that defaulters of the above-mentioned activities shall be penalized with Rs 20,000. PYO further requested the general public to stay vigilant of such unwanted activities and report to PYO officials for the collective preservation of the environment keeping in mind the climate changes faced over the past few years and also challenging everyone to be ambassadors towards environmental protection, the release said.
