Kohima: The Governor of Assam and Nagaland and Chief Rector Nagaland University Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Tuesday visited the Nagaland University Headquarters at Lumami.
Official sources said that speaking at the function at the University the Governor said ever since its inception in 1994, Nagaland University has grown quantitatively and qualitatively despite the challenges of geography, transport & communication.
He stated the University stands for encouraging and empowering the young minds to be enlightened citizens to take care of the needs of society.
The governor said he was sure that the University has been providing quality education to the young minds to make them capable of protecting and preserving the traditional values of Nagaland in terms of honesty, simplicity, hard work, commitment, love, compassion and fraternity. The University campuses despite being geographically dispersed are committed towards achieving a single goal of transforming the University into a centre of excellent and vibrant knowledge, he added.
Prof. Mukhi stated that National Education Policy, 2020 was designed with the will of the people by considering the needs and requirements and with an aim at creating innovative mind and creating a pool of job givers, he expressed hope that with determination and commitment NU would be able to implement the NEP 2020 in the next academic session.
He suggested short term skill based programs for that. He emphasized on the importance of agriculture in the state considering the limitations of other industries.
Speaking about Nagaland University, Vice-Chancellor, Prof, Pardesi Lal said the prime objective of the university is to meet and match the requirements of the students academically, concentrating on all detailed provisions (departments) in the university.
He added any society where women strive for higher education, can be regarded a society with a positive vision and Nagaland University having an enrolment percentage of more than 62% of girl students, can definitely be acknowledged as a society moving in a proper direction.
The Governor also interacted with students and faculty members during the visit. The Governor was accompanied by his Lady Wife, Prem Mukhi, sources said.
