Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has disowned the claim on social media about an impending earthquake on February 26.

In a release issued by the joint CEO of the NSDMA informed the public that the warning was circulated without mentioning any sources, but was not from a Government authenticated or authorised agency.

The NSDMA affirmed that the warning had no relation to any of the authorised nodal official agency monitoring seismic activity in the country, such as National Centre for Seismology in the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India. It said that it was being circulated on social media and creating panic in the minds of the public.

NSDMA has advised the public, not to unduly panic for the message, but to be aware and continue to adhere to the various safety measures issued by NSDMA from time to time concerning earthquakes because Nagaland and the rest of the North East lie in the Seismic Zone-V and in a tectonic plate boundary which is most vulnerable to earthquakes.

The message clip in the social media, which purportedly claims that earthquake, would occur on February 26, 2023, 12 noon, for 31 seconds.
