Imphal: Assam Rifles personnel nabbed a cadre of Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) from Yaingangpokpi, Kangpokpi district on Wednesday who was allegedly involved in the Behiang ambush, November 2021, police on Thursday said.
In the ambush seven persons including the CO of 46 Assam Rifles were killed. The arrested cadre was identified as Self Styled Sergeant Major Solomon. The arrested person has been handed over to NIA, Imphal Branch for necessary legal action.
In another incident the same day Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended a militant at Tengnoupal district. He was handed over to Kakching Police Station for further investigation.
Drug seized
Manipur Police and Assam Rifles personnel nabbed one Lenzo Lenchinjang Zou with 82 packets containing suspected WY tablets in different packet sizes, weighing a total of 56.255 Kgs on Wednesday at Tengnoupal district.
The drug was worth about Rs 26 Cr in the international market, police on Thursday said.
The apprehended drug peddler along with recovered drugs was handed over to Moreh Police Station for further investigation.
In another incident the same day a team of Tengnoupal Police Station detected and seized 55 soap cases of different colours containing suspected brown sugar, weighing 2.347 Kgs, from a car . The man was arrested and identified as Thangkholun Haokip .
In the third incident a team of Assam Rifles was sent for patrolling near Kwatha Junction, Tengnoupal and the troops spotted suspicious packages in the thick foliage of the jungle. On thorough search, contraband items worth Rs 55 lakhs were recovered from these packages.
The recovered items have been handed over to Customs Preventive Force (CPF) for further investigation.
