Aizawl: The new Speaker of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly will be elected on Tuesday after oaths are administered to the 39 newly elected members by the Pro-tem Speaker Lalfamkima.
State Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has summoned the first session of the ninth Mizoram Assembly from Tuesday.
Secretary of the State Assembly Lalhmahruaia Zote said that the Pro-tem Speaker will administer the oaths to the newly elected legislators which will be followed by the election of the new Speaker.
“The last day of filing nominations is 3 PM on Monday. We are yet to receive any nomination paper,” Zote said, adding, nomination papers for both Speaker and Deputy Speaker are likely to be filed on Monday.
He said the Governor will address the first session of the ninth Mizoram Assembly on Wednesday. The session will not take up any businesses except moving and discussing the motion of thanks to the customary gubernatorial address.
On Thursday, the session will begin with obituary references to be followed by the election of the Deputy Speaker. The session will be adjourned sine die after the the discussion on motion of thanks to the Governor’s address.
The composition of the House is Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) 27 seats, Mizo National Front (MNF) 10 seats, BJP two seats and Congress one seat.
