Imphal: “Mirabai Chanu” – a biopic based on Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Olympics Silver Medalist, has been registered with Film Forum Manipur, an apex body of Manipuri films here on Thursday.
The title registration event was held at the office of the Forum at Lamphelpat, Imphal in the presence of S. Mangoljao (Chairman, FFM), Birendra Salam (Vice-Chairman FFM), Manaobi M.M (writer of the film – “Mirabai Chanu”), OC Meira, director of the film, Suraj, cultural activist of Manipuris in Assam and other members of Film Forum Manipur.
It may be mentioned that Film Forum Manipur was constituted with 12 registered associations/ organizations of different subjects/departments of film production. It looks after all the activities of film production in the state of Manipur.
During the event S. Mangoljao assured that the executive committee of the Forum would extend all possible support in the production of the film in different capacities.
He further informed that any film production company/producer from outside the state should obtain prior permission from the Forum for the production of films based on the life of sportspersons or any other personalities in Manipur. The decision in this regard was taken to protect our arts and culture from being wrongly depicted, Mangoljao added.
Last month, Imphal-based Seuti Films Production had signed an agreement with Chanu at her residence in Nongpok Kakching village to produce a film based on her life.
The chairman of the Production House, Manaobi MM, said that Chanu’s life will be a realistic film and a new face will be trained to act as Mirabai. The proposed film will showcase the entire life of Mirabai Chanu beginning her early days in the village and the journey to the Olympics.
The film will also be dubbed into English and various Indian languages.
