Minister Rajen chairs meet on Loktak Livelihood Mission

Sharing views during the discussion, Director Fisheries, H Balkrishna said that the department is aiming for maximum fish production in the state in comparison with the previous years.

Imphal: A discussion regarding the Loktak Livelihood Mission was held at the mini conference hall of the Fishery Minister at the Secretariat South Block, Wednesday. It was conducted maintaining proper SOPs prescribed by the State Government.

A Power-Point presentation on the Livelihood Mission was also made. Minister, Fishery, S Rajen Singh, Commissioner, Fishery, M Harekrishna, Director, Fishery, H Balkrishna, under-secretary, fishery, IT experts were present during the discussion.

 The Ministerial team minutely discussed about the prospects, features and shortfalls of fish farming around Loktak lake. Chairing the discussion Minister Rajen said that new and advanced technique of fish farming should be employed for enabling production of self-reliant fish products in the state.

He also explained that fishery department needs to procure a Mobile Lab so that the fish related problems of the farmers can be addressed. He instructed concerned officials to process for procurement of a Mobile Lab for the department.

 Commissioner, Fishery, M Harekrishna said there is a need for redefining fishery department and its activities. He stressed on the present status of the fish farmers and fish farms particularly of the state.

Sharing views during the discussion, Director Fisheries, H Balkrishna said that the department is aiming for maximum fish production in the state in comparison with the previous years. The fishery department is taking up initiatives to develop this sector on a priority basis, he added.

During the PowerPoint presentation, the prospects of Cage-farming and Pane-Farming, Installation of Cold Storage, prospects of local fish farming, marketing policy, yielding of fish production, Community Involvement etc. were highlighted.
