Imphal: Globally-renowned firms are lining up at NIT Manipur, with Microsoft having offered the season’s best placement package at the premier technology institute here.

The highest international offers at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur were made by Microsoft and Intuit (42.5 lakhs and 33 lakhs) per annum respectively.

Microsoft offers a pay package of Rs 42.5 lakhs per annum to Rachit Kumar Tiwari and Sushmita Dhal. Moreover, Avichal Srivastava got an offer of Rs 33 lakhs per annum from Intuit, said a senior official of the institute.

The average pay package offered to the NIT Manipur students is Rs. 8.21 lakhs per annum, said the official and added that this year a total of 58 final year students received job offers during campus placement.

Some of well-known companies which took part in campus placement are Microsoft, Intuit, 314e, Infoedge, Click Labs, Publicis Sapient, TCS, Accenture, LTI Advance, Delivery, C-DAC, Delloite, MAQ Software, Capgemini, LNT, TATA Power, Naggaro, LTI, NTT DATA, Virtusa, Cavision, Infosys(SES), KEC, Infosys, Perfect VIP, Pure Software, S2Tech, Pie Infocomm etc.

The official, however, contended that the ongoing pandemic of COVID 19 has changed their way of living. One of the hardest hit sectors is the educational institutes.

When the countrywide lockdown was first announced on 25th March last year, students, teachers and all the stakeholders were taken by surprise. None of them were prepared for such situations. Students were asked to vacate their hostels on short notice. Many thought the lockdown will be of short duration. However, due to the worsening of COVID situation, the lockdown persisted, he added.

Normal teaching learning in a classroom and laboratories were out of the question. NIT Manipur had to adopt a new way to carry out its various academic activities on an online platform. In a short period of time, NIT Manipur purchased Webex, laptops etc to facilitate faculty members to conduct online classes. Students also burned their midnight oil to compete with their counterparts despite various limitations and difficulties.

Owing to the dedicated efforts of the institute authority, faculty members and hard work of students, the institute achieved academic excellence in the form of research papers, online seminars, sponsored projects etc, to name a few.

The strength of an educational institute is reflected by the performance and achievements of its students. Many more students of the institute are joining for higher studies in various institutes across the country and the globe, the official added.
