Shillong: The First Lady of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Neelam Misra interacted with senior officials of Textile and Handicrafts department, entrepreneurs and self help groups at Raj Bhavan here Friday.
The First Lady urged the officials to motivate and assist the traditional weavers, especially the womenfolk in ensuring that the customary traditions continue to facilitate the progress and development of the society.
Impressed by the initiatives of the Government officials in the promotion of local handloom items, the First Lady called upon everyone to take the local product to global markets. She said steps will guarantee socio-economic empowerment of women,Â
Principal Secretary Textile Sampath Kumar, Commission & Secretary Textile F.R. Kharkongor, Director NIFT, Shillong Dr. A. Das, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo and Secretary Textiles, T. Lyngwa were also present.
Kari Lombi, OSD to Secretary Textile & Handicrafts, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and Ratan Anya, Chairperson, Oju Welfare Association of Arunachal Pradesh attended and interacted with entrepreneurs of Meghalaya.
Documentaries on textiles of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh were screened on the occasion, which was appreciated by all.
