Shillong: Four Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators in Meghalaya are holding parleys with senior BJP leaders to join the party, a party official said on Thursday.

Former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma together with his daughter Miani D Shira, Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kazi and Rupa M Marak are likely to join the BJP with discussions being held with top BJP leaders.

“Talks of the merger of the TMC legislators with the BJP are at a preliminary stage and more details would emerge in the days ahead,” a senior BJP leader who wished not to be quoted said.

When contacted, State BJP president Ernest Mawrie feigned ignorance over the matter and said : “I have no information of TMC legislators’ readiness to join the BJP.”

On the other hand, TMC state President, Charles Pyngrope said he is unaware of the move of the four legislators.

“I really have no idea about them joining the BJP . Whether Dr. Mukul Sangma and others are joining the BJP that I don’t know because nothing has been discussed within the party,” Pyngrope said.

Sangma left the grand-old Congress party together with 12 Congress legislators before the assembly elections and joined the Bengal-based TMC.
