Meghalaya reports 244 new COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said 10 of the 12 COVID-19 patients who died were not vaccinated against the virus.

Shillong: Twelve deaths due to COVID-19 related complications took the number of fatalities to 1,252 and 244 new cases of infection added up to 3,405 active cases, even as 418 more recoveries surged the number of recovered cases to 67999 on Wednesday in Meghalaya, which has registered 72,656 confirmed cases so far.

While eight COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in the East Khasi Hills district, one death each was recorded in the South West Garo Hills district, West Garo Hills district, West Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.

He said the COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday included 79 in East Khasi Hills district, 55 in Ri-Bhoi district, 28 in South West Khasi Hills district, 25 in West Jaintia Hills district, 20 in West Khasi Hills district, 16 in West Garo Hills district, 10 in South Garo Hills district, five in East Garo Hills district, three in East Jaintia Hills district, two in North Garo Hills district and one case in the South West Garo Hills district.

The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong, is the most Covid-19 affected district with 1,535 active cases and 872 deaths, followed by Ri-Bhoi district with 394 active cases and 70 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 391 active cases and 108 deaths, West Khasi Hills district with 385 active cases and 47 deaths, West Garo Hills district with 336 active cases and 70 deaths and South West Khasi Hills district with 183 active cases and 12 deaths, while the other districts
had less than 100 active cases each, as per the latest official count.

Meanwhile, of the 9,25,803 persons tested for COVID-19 in the state till Wednesday, 8,53,147 persons were tested negative for the virus.
On the other hand, 32,020 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 24,626 have been administered with the second dose, 96,923 front-line workers got the first jab and 57467 took the second shot, 8,49,046 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 1,80,769 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date.
