Meghalaya records 155 new COVID-19 cases and 108 recoveries

The positivity rate in the State stands at 2.04 per cent, while recovery rate is at 96.23 per cent and the fatality rate is at 1.72 per cent as on date.

Shillong: Meghalaya on Friday recorded 155 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of active cases up to 1,666, while 108 persons have recovered from the contagion surged the number of recovered cases to 78,375 so far, health officials said.

The positivity rate in the State stands at 2.04 per cent, while the recovery rate is at 96.23 per cent and the fatality rate is at 1.72 per cent as on date.

Meghalaya has so far registered 79, 206 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,404 fatalities, as per data released by health authorities.

Out of the 155 new COVID-19 cases, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said 90 were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 27 in West Jaintia Hills district, 26 in West Khasi Hills district, three cases each in Ri-Bhoi district, South West Khasi Hills district and West Garo Hills district, two cases in South West Garo Hills district and one case in South Garo Hills district.

No fresh cases were detected in East Jaintia Hills district, East Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district, he said.

The East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong is the most pandemic hit district with 805 active COVID-19 cases and 966 deaths, followed by West Khasi Hills district with 399 active cases and 61 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 186 active cases and 128 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 179 active cases and 83 deaths while the other districts had less than 50 active cases each, health officials said.

Of the 10,78,318 persons tested for Covid-19 in the State till today, 9,96,873 persons were tested negative for the virus.

On the other hand, 32,056 health care workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 27,136 were administered with the second dose, 96,961 front-line workers got the first jab and 77,064 took the second shot, 9,42,473 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 3,66,904 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, as per information received from the National Health Mission.
