Shillong: Meghalaya Information and Technology Minister and former People’s Democratic Front leader Hamletson Dohling on Saturday joined the National People’s Party (NPP) in the presence of the NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Two senior PDF leaders Emlang Lytan and Ivanlumlang Marbaniang also joined the NPP.
Dohling was elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2018 as a People’s Democratic Front (PDF) member from Mylliem constituency. He had defeated his nearest rival candidate Ronnie Lyngdoh of the Congress by a margin of 421 votes.
“It is my proud privilege to welcome Hamletson Dohling to the NPP family! Bah Ham has always stood by the people in issues that concern their welfare & will complement the mission of the NPP,” Sangma said.
“He (Dohling) is backed by thousands today who have affirmed their faith in his leadership,” he added.
On Friday, former PDF legislator from Umsning assembly constituency had joined Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, while former Hill State People’s Democratic Party Samlin Malangiang who represented Sohiong constituency is expected to join on January 10.
Elections to the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly are scheduled to be held next month.
