Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said that the State government has earmarked Rs 200 crore for producers group by way of which the government will be able to help farmers and entrepreneurs of the State.
He was speaking during an interaction session with ‘Producers Group.’ an initiative of Farmers Collectivization for Upscaling Production and Marketing Systems (Focus) at Gokulgre, near Mendal in North Garo Hills district on Monday.
The Chief Minister, who holds the finance portfolio, said that Rs 40 crore was being released for different groups in phase-I, which will be rolled out soon.
“Through the Chief Minister’s Support for producers group, the government has envisaged providing interest-free loan to the farmers,” Sangma said.
He urged the farmers to work together as farmers collective or producers group and avail the benefits of the scheme.
Sangma also told the gathering that to mark the birth anniversary of (L) PA Sangma on September 1, the focus programme will be held in different parts of the State, wherein financial support under the FOCUS programme will be released to producers’ groups. He also said that about 30000 farmers will avail benefit of the scheme in the next few months.
The Chief Minister and other dignitaries also handed over financial support to different producers groups during the programme.
