Shillong: The Meghalaya police on Saturday achieved a major breakthrough in connection with the series of robberies from petrol refilling centres in the State with the arrest of five persons.
One AK-47 rifle with 14 round of live ammunition, two machetes, three mobile handsets, one motor cycle bearing Assam registration number AS 27 D 2482 and several other incriminating materials were seized from their possession, a police official said.
Acting on specific intelligence input, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said four accused persons – – Jotish Daimary, Sansoma Mooshahary, Shankar Boro and Bipul Basumatry – were nabbed from their hideout at Ryngsong Shylla near Umlawang village in East Jaintia Hills district.
He said the fifth accused Fajal Haque was arrested from Basistha area in Guwahati with the help of the Assam police.
“All the arrested persons have admitted their involvement in the recent robbery cases of Petrol Refilling Centers at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district, Shillong city in East Khasi Hills district and Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district,” Dhaonoa said.
Jaitush, who is a resident of Mazkhuti village in Assam’s Udalguri district, had masterminded all the robberies in the three districts of the State.
“We are interrogating the arrested persons to find out the entire conspiracy in the commission of these offences,” Dhaonoa said.
