Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday condemned the vandalisation of the Catholic Church in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh.

On Monday, an irate mob vandalised the Sacred Heart Church at Edka village in Narayanpur district due to alleged ‘forced conversion’ by the community.

Narayanpur superintendent of police (SP) Sadanand Kumar and other police personnel sustained injuries.

“Condemn the attack on #Christians and the vandalization of the church at #Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh. Urge the authorities to take strict action against those involved,” the Chief Minister tweeted.

“Praying for speedy recovery of the police personnel and those injured during the incidents,” he added.

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, Dr. Mukul Sangma have also expressed concern over the church attack.

“What is happening in this country? Are we forgetting the strength that we draw as a Nation from its linguistic, cultural & religious diversity – the unity in diversity that laid the foundation for strong modern India,” Mukul tweeted.
