Imphal: The Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to fence (Border Fencing) the entire 1648 km long India-Myanmar border.
In a press release, it said that this fence will surely check cross-border drugs and arms smuggling, entry of Myanmar nationals to India illegally, and also reduce the movement of anti-social elements between India and Myanmar.
“It is a welcome move to Manipur State for the present crisis in Manipur is due to the vast influx of illegal Myanmar nationals to our State. Keeping the Indo-Myanmar border porous along the Manipur sector will further aggravate the present crisis of Manipur”
The MCM also requested the Union Government to conduct a proper and meticulous survey before starting the construction of the border fence “so that no portion of our land is lost”. It also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for taking this decision to fence Indo-Myanmar at the right time.
