Mumbai: Worsening Russia-Ukraine crisis sent markets in a tizzy with both BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opening in deep red on Tuesday.
While BSE Sensex tanked over 1,000 points as the market opened, Nifty slipped below 17,000-mark. All sectoral indices declined. Markets were expected to open on weak note on global cues.
Globally, selling pressure mounted due to ongoing geo-political tensions. Global markets declined sharply following the news that Russian President Vladimir Putin had signed a decree recognizing the separatist areas in Ukraine as independent.
India has called for restraint from all sides at the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council called in view of the Russian action.
