Imphal: X Polo Club lifted the 30th Governor’s Cup invitation Polo Tournament, while Imphal Riding Club won the 19thGovernor’s Cup women’s Polo Tournament organised by the Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association.
In the final match played at the Mapal Kanjeibung, Imphal, the oldest living polo ground in the world, on Saturday, X Polo Club thumped the Manipur Police Sports Club B (MPSC-B) 9-4, helped by a scintillating display from the team captain, P Ojit, who scored six goals.
The two teams were on equal footing till the end of the first chukker, with the score reading three goals each, with L Atangba, Th Jacob, and P Ojit scoring for X Polo Club, while T Pradeep scored twice and O Suresh scored once for MPSC-B.
In the 2nd chukker, MPSC-B drew a blank while P Ojit scored for X-Polo Club. MPSC-B again failed to add any more to its tally in the third chukker, while X Polo Club P Ojit pumped in two more goals to make it 6-3.
X Polo Club stamped their dominance in this match with P Ojit scoring twice, L Athangba adding another goal in the last chukker, and MPSC-B scoring only one goal through T Pradeep. X Polo Club won 9-3 to lift the Governor’s Cup.
Imphal Riding Club (IRC) scored a resounding victory, defeating Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club (CHPC) 10-2 to lift the 19th Governor’s Cup Women’s Polo Tournament.
In the 1st chukker, Kh Habe scored twice for IRC while Kh Chaoba scored for CHPC, and even as N Felicia scored in the early part of the 2nd chukker for CHPC, Deventy scored twice for IRC to make it 4-2 in favour of IRC.
It was IRC all the way in the 3rd and 4th chukker, adding six more goals while CHPC failed to add any more to its tally of 2 goals. In the 3rd chukker, Deventy scored twice and Habe once, and in the 4th chukker, things went the same as in the previous chukker, with Deventy adding two more goals and Habe one. The final scoreline is IRC 10 and CHPC 2.
