Manipur violence: Women leaders call on Governor

The team urged the governor to implement the NRC to flush out illegal immigrants from the state.

Imphal: A women team led by Lourembam Memchoubi, President, Poirei Leimarol, and representatives of three women markets (Ima Keithels) of Imphal, met with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.

During their meeting with the governor, the women leaders expressed their grief over the prevailing chaotic situation and requested that she take the necessary steps to stop violence and restore peace and harmony in the state. 

The team urged the governor to implement the NRC to flush out illegal immigrants from the state. They requested that the governor immediately withdraw SoO agreement with Kuki UG outfits. 

The representatives also urged the Governor to provide an adequate supply of essential items to the displaced people who are taking shelter in different relief camps and to take steps for their resettlement and rehabilitation as early as possible. They also requested that the governor lift the ban on internet connectivity, stating that it hampered a lot in normal activities.

The governor assured the representatives that she would take all steps for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state. The governor informed the team that all efforts have been made to prevent untoward incidents. She reiterated that she has already kept the Union Home Minister informed in detail about the prevailing situation in the state.
