Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has assured the relocation of the Sub Divisional Office (SDO) from Tamenglong district headquarters to Tousem Sub Division.

The assurance came during a meeting on Wednesday between the Chief Minister and residents of Tousem Sub-Division, along with representatives from civil society organizations and student bodies, sources told The North East Affairs.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister promised the immediate transfer of the SDO office to Tousem headquarters, reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing the backward status of the sub-division. He also assured that essential services such as electricity, roads, and communication would be restored soon, the sources added.

Awangbou Newmai, the Minister for Water Resources, Relief, and Disaster Management, provided updates on ongoing development projects in the region, while Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam urged civil society organizations to support government-led initiatives in Tousem.

In their interaction with the Chief Minister, civil society organizations requested the deployment of SDC officers at both Tousem HQ and Thiulon SDC, and they submitted a memorandum for the construction of the Haipei Rani Gaidinliu Road, which would connect Longkao to Magulong via Azuram village.

Last month, the Tousem Area Students’ Organization launched an indefinite blockade of the national highway, demanding the SDO office be relocated to Tousem. The blockade was lifted after the state government assured that the office would be moved by November 10th.
