Imphal: Manipur Police on Thursday seized 599 cases of liquor worth about Rs 20 lakhs in Assam market at Jiribam district.
Police said as a normal frisking and checking of the vehicles along NH 37 conducted by Narcotic Cell, Jiribam District police in connection with the upcoming State Assembly Election, 2022 and New Year eve, a truck bearing registration No. AS 01 CC 3257 was checked at Leingangpokpi village area and 599 cases of liquor were found.
The liquor was brought from Assam. As Manipur is a dry state police has been on high alert to detect illegal transportation of liquor specially in the border areas.
Meanwhile in another incident a Quick reaction team (QRT) team of Kangpokpi PS seized 80 liters of local liquors while conducting frisking and checking along NH-2. The same were handed over to the Excise Department at 9:00 AM.
Police said the liquor was found in an Alto Car bearing Regn. No. DL-2C-AC-7445 and the seized items will be handed over to the Excise department.
