Imphal: Manipur police recovered a huge cache of arms, and ammunition from Churachandpur’s Henglep subdivision after a brief encounter with suspected Kuki militants on Sunday.
As a follow-up action on the looting of arms and ammunition from the Chongkhojou SoO Camp that took place on April 8, 2023, a team of Churachandpur District Police had an encounter with the suspected KIA (Kuki Independent Army) cadres between Songphu village and Kolchung village, about 20 km north of Henglep, on April 16.
After the firing stopped, a thorough search of the area was conducted and the following warlike stores of the group were recovered: a Ladies’ Carbine with one magazine, an AK-56 Rifle with two magazines, three camouflage bags, two Chinese hand grenades, one Lethode live round, three pistols, 76 rounds of ammunition for the AK-56, 22 single barrel rounds, three empty cases, four rounds of 9 mm rounds, and four single barrels (SBBL).
The operations against KIA are continuing, and further investigation is underway, according to a press note from the Manipur Police.
