Imphal: In its ongoing efforts to promote sports and fitness among local communities, the Indian Army, under Operation Sadbhavana, is organizing the Lt Col Robert T.A. Memorial Badminton Tournament at Rikhumai Indoor Badminton Hall, Senapati district, Manipur, from 23 to 27 September 2024.
Lt Col Robert T.A., the first Maram Naga to be commissioned as an officer in the Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army in 2004, made the ultimate sacrifice on 14 May 2020 while leading a snow clearance expedition in North Sikkim during an avalanche.
The tournament features several categories, including singles, doubles, and mixed doubles for men and women, with participants spanning multiple age groups from under 11 to over 60. The opening ceremony, set for 23 September 2024, will be attended by Mrs. Chingpai Rangnamei, wife of the late Lt Col Robert, along with senior Indian Army officers and other dignitaries.
The event will also include cultural performances, a parade of participants, and a series of badminton matches, aiming to inspire community spirit, sportsmanship, and fitness among the youth and residents of Senapati district.
