Imphal: With the initiative of All Manipur Scientific Farmers’ Association in collaboration with the Government of Manipur, Fishery Department Monday procured around 4500 fingerlings of local Sareng (wallago attu) from Kolkata.
Speaking to the media, All Manipur Scientific Farmer Association President Premananda Meitei said that with the initiative taken by the Association in collaboration with the State Fishery Department, local Sareng fingerlings have started arriving in Manipur.
The aim of procurement of Sareng fingerlings is to make the State self-sufficient in Sareng production and make it available in abundance to the consumers.

Local Sareng fingerlings, imported from Kolkata Monday, will be reared in ponds of Phokbakchao, Imphal West District. It is expected that with the arrival of local Sareng fingerlings, the local Sareng fish production would be sufficient in the future.
