Manipur: Kangpokpi district celebrates 13th National Voters’ day

Deputy Commissioner, Kengoo Zuringla, IAS, said since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been observed on January 25th every year to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.

Kangpokpi: The 13th National Voters’ Day, 2023, under the theme “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure,” was observed in the Multi Purpose Hall, DC Office Complex, Kangpokpi today. The function was organised by the District Administration in collaboration with ERO 50-Kangpokpi. 

Speaking as the Chief Guest of the function, Deputy Commissioner, Kengoo Zuringla, IAS, said since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been observed on January 25th every year to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. 

Stating that the main purpose of the day is to create electoral awareness among citizens, she said it is also to encourage them to participate in the electoral process. She went on to say that the day is also used to facilitate voter registration, particularly among newly eligible young voters.

Addressing the attendees of the function, especially the young voters, Zuringla said even a single vote counts and is valuable, and she advised them not to sell or allow anyone to buy their valuable votes. “Voters should exercise their franchise carefully as every vote matters,” she added.

The DC conducted the National Voters’ Pledge for those who attended the function today. The newly registered voters were also handed over the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC).

The function was also attended by Derick L. Khobung, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Bungba Maibam, SDO Saikul; DLOs, NYK Youth volunteers, students, among others.
