Manipur: Joint Security operations leads to major arms and ammunition seizures

These joint operations have collectively led to the recovery of over 50 weapons. All seized items have been handed over to the Manipur Police.

Imphal: In a series of coordinated efforts, Assam Rifles, alongside Manipur Police and other security agencies, have successfully seized a significant cache of weapons and warlike materials across multiple districts in Manipur. The operations utilized advanced equipment, including explosive detection dogs and metal detectors.

On August 28, 2024, based on specific intelligence regarding arms and ammunition in the Sekmaijin area of Kakching District, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted a thorough search operation. This led to the recovery of a Sten Mk V rifle, two 12-bore single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, nine hand grenades, and other warlike items.

Subsequently, on August 30, 2024, an intelligence-driven joint operation was executed by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the areas of Changsang near Sagolmang and Ekau Mullam near Saikul in Kangpokpi district. This operation resulted in the seizure of a Soviet rifle, a locally made rifle, a bolt-action rifle, a 0.22 pistol, an improvised mortar, six Pompis, and additional warlike equipment.

On September 1, 2024, acting on credible intelligence about the presence of arms and ammunition in the Manipur R Corridor, Molnom-Senam Hills, and Saivom Hills—spanning the districts of Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Chandel—multiple joint operations were launched. These resulted in the recovery of a 51mm mortar, an MA-3 Mk-II rifle, an AK-47, two Lathode guns, a .303 rifle, six 9mm pistols, seven single-barrel 12-bore guns, two .22 rifles, twelve single-barrel 12-bore guns, eleven Pompi guns, 49 improvised explosive devices, grenades, tear gas shells, ammunition, and other warlike materials.

These joint operations have collectively led to the recovery of over 50 weapons. All seized items have been handed over to the Manipur Police, according to a statement from the PRO, IGAR(S).
