Kangpokpi: Vote from Home (VfH) facility or home voting commenced in the Kangpokpi district on Saturday. Under the strict supervision of the District Election Officer (DEO)/DC, the polling officials conducted the home voting for the eligible elderly voters and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) at the 46-Saikul (ST), 50-Kangpokpi and 51-Saitu (ST) Assembly Constituencies of the Kangpokpi District.
Altogether 72 eligible electors of the district, including 45 senior citizens and 27 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) will exercise their franchise using postal ballot at their respective homes/places in presence of the polling officials by opting VfH facility.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a major step towards promoting inclusive and accessible elections by extending the VfH facility to senior citizens above 85 years and persons with more than 40 percent disability.
Starting early in the morning today, the polling team comprising six teams each consisting of Micro Observer, two Polling Officers, a videographer and two security personnel began visiting the houses of the absentee voters and supervising the postal ballot voting process with regard to the three Assembly Constituencies. The polling team took utmost care to avoid any foul play or tampering with the ballot box following the instructions and guidelines.
The home voting facility has provided an opportunity for several senior citizens and PwDs in Kangpokpi District to exercise their right to vote through postal ballots in the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 enabling them to reduce their difficulties of travelling to the polling stations.
The facility has helped in promoting equal opportunities for all and ensuring that no one is left behind in the electoral process. It may be noted that the district will go to poll on April 19 in the first phase of voting.
